You’ve hit level 50. The training wheels are off. Welcome to the true D4 items experience. Enemies are deadlier, loot tables open up dramatically, and the grind for Paragon power begins. In Season of Belial’s Return, this phase introduces massive opportunities—and dangers—for your Necromancer.
This blog dives into building for Nightmare Dungeons, pushing seasonal content, and crafting a setup that can dominate both bosses and hordes alike.
Reaching World Tier 3: What You Need
At level 50, you’ll face the Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon. Beating this lets you access World Tier 3 (Nightmare), unlocking:
-
Nightmare Dungeons
-
Sacred gear drops
-
Seasonal content escalation
-
Helltide and Whisper events
Recommended Power Level:
-
Minions: Level 8+ Skeletons, Golem unlocked
-
Core Skill: Bone Spear (or Blight) at Rank 7+
-
Gear: Item power 500+, ideally with 2–3 imprinted Aspects
-
Resistances: Poison, Shadow, Cold—critical for Belial-themed content
Best Build Paths: Bone Spear vs. Shadowblight Minion
At this stage, your Necromancer build should commit to one of two paths for max efficiency:
Option 1: Bone Spear Burst Build (High Damage/Elite Hunting)
Core Skills:
-
Bone Spear (maxed) – Main damage dealer
-
Bone Prison – Crowd control and synergy with Umbral Aspect
-
Corpse Tendrils – Pull + Vulnerable application
-
Blood Mist – Escape/immune tool
-
Decrepify – Slow + cooldown management
Aspects to Equip:
-
Splintering Aspect – More projectiles + Vulnerable
-
Aspect of the Umbral – Resource regen on CC
-
Tibault’s Will – Damage after gaining Unstoppable (Blood Mist synergy)
-
Aspect of Grasping Veins – Crit chance after using Tendrils
Stat Priorities:
-
Crit Chance
-
Crit Damage
-
Vulnerable Damage
-
Intelligence
-
Essence Generation
Bone Spear builds can clear Nightmare Dungeons quickly and annihilate elites/bosses. Your rotation revolves around Bone Spear > Tendrils > Corpse Explosion (optional) > Blood Mist.
Option 2: Shadowblight Minion Build (DOT + Pet Pressure)
Core Skills:
-
Blight – Main DOT spreader
-
Raise Skeleton + Mages
-
Corpse Explosion (Plagued modifier) – Poison AoE synergy
-
Decompose – Essence + Corpse Gen
-
Golem (Bone or Iron) – Extra tank/DPS
Book of the Dead:
-
Warriors: Reapers (for corpse gen)
-
Mages: Cold (chill/slow enemies)
-
Golem: Sacrifice for bonus or tank for sustain
Aspects to Equip:
-
Aspect of Reanimation – Buffs minion damage
-
Hardened Bones – Survivability
-
Blighted Aspect – Expands Blight AoE
-
Unyielding Commander’s Aspect – Minion attack speed increase
Stat Priorities:
-
Minion Damage
-
Shadow DOT Damage
-
Intelligence
-
Cooldown Reduction
This build excels in sustained engagements, DOT layering, and defensive play. Perfect for longer Nightmare runs and group synergy.
Nightmare Dungeons: Strategy & Tier Selection
Nightmare Sigils begin dropping post-Tier 3 unlock. Start at Tier 1–5 and work upward.
Tips:
-
Always check modifiers. Avoid Poison resist reduction, which is lethal in Belial-themed areas.
-
Prioritize dungeons with tight corridors—they benefit Tendrils, Blight, and Bone Spear.
-
Save strong Sigils for Glyph XP farming runs—especially Tier 10+.
Use Deceiver Shrines if they appear. They supercharge your damage and clone Bone Spells.
Paragon Board: Where to Invest First
Once level 50+ hits, Paragon Boards become your next min-maxing playground.
For Bone Spear Builds:
-
Glyphs: Exploit, Essence, Control
-
Prioritize nodes: Crit Damage, Bone Skill Damage, Vulnerable Damage
-
First board: Bone Graft (Bone-specific)
For Shadow/Minion Builds:
-
Glyphs: Control, Golem, Darkness
-
Prioritize nodes: Minion Life, Shadow DOT, Intelligence
-
First board: Flesh-Eater or Hulking Monstrosity
Remember: Rotate boards with synergy in mind. Don’t branch randomly—plan Glyph radius boosts.
Seasonal Focus: Belial’s Truth-Labyrinths
After 50, new “Truth-Labyrinths” open up in seasonal zones. These are short-form dungeons with:
-
Puzzle modifiers
-
Deceiver’s Marks
-
High Shard drop rates
Build tips:
-
Use Corpse Tendrils to lock enemies before they morph or split.
-
Use Decrepify to slow down timed puzzle zones.
-
Save Blood Mist for immunity phases—especially when illusions activate traps.
Rewards from Labyrinths feed into Belial’s Gauntlet, the Season Journey’s boss rush arena—covered in Blog 4.
Efficient Gear Farming

-
Upgrading at Blacksmith: Boost base stats

Using Occultist: Extract best Aspects from yellows

Helltides: Farm Forgotten Souls for rerolls

Whispers: Target Necro caches
